Settled in 1876, the Grand Lake area has been a popular tourist destination for more than 100 years, and it's not hard to see why. The town, located just to the west of scenic Rocky Mountain National Park, offers activities for everyone year round.

In summer, vacationers can participate in any number of outdoor sports, from hiking the countless miles of trails in and around the park, to fishing in the area's many lakes, rivers and streams. Grand Lake boasts "The World's Highest Yacht Club" and, together with nearby Shadow Mountain and Granby Lakes, offers 150 miles of shoreline for boaters and swimmers alike. Trail Ridge Road, a scenic byway and America's highest continuous highway, can take visitors on the 48 mile trip from Grand Lake to Estes Park, reaching heights of more than 12,000 feet.

Winter time brings snow, and, with it, all types of cold weather activities. Three major alpine ski areas are within 50 minutes of Grand Lake, and cross country trails can be found just about anywhere. Adventurers can take their snowmobiles up into the mountains, and the slow at heart can snowshoe through the park. In town, the lakes morph into ice fishing holes, and vacationers and residents alike enjoy Grand Lake's ice skating rink and sleigh rides.

And, anytime of year, visitors can take in the town's historic charm. The Kauffman House Museum, a former stage stop and hotel built in 1892, tells about Grand Lake's mining roots and its storied past. And the town's carefully preserved downtown features wooden boardwalks that lead visitors to its many restaurants and shops.
