Jeeping & ATV trails disperse throughout the Rio Grande National Forest near Pagosa Springs. Following the East Fork of the San Juan River unveils fantastic views of peaks rising to nearly 13,000 feet, evergreen and deciduous forestation, and waterscapes including the East Fork of the San Juan, Silver Falls, and a multitude of small creeks and lakes. The route begins ten miles north of Pagosa Springs on US 160 at the gravel Forest Service Access Road. The road is suitable for all vehicles until Silver Falls, from here a high clearance four-wheel drive vehicle is required.
South of Pagosa Springs, on US 84 to Chama, Mill Creek - Nipple Mountain Road provides another great off road experience. Along the route, travelers will experience the best views of the Upper San Juan Valley and Blanco Basin. High clearance four-wheel drive vehicles are required past Quartz Lake trail head.
