Why Hire A Guide | When Is The Best Time To Go Fishing | Reservations

WHY HIRE A GUIDE? Your time to fish is probably limited. Don't waste that time finding the right water or trying to choose the right fly. A guide is your fast track to the frustration-free fishing experience that you've been hoping to find. And no matter how good you are now, you will walk away a better fisherman.

Dave Parri & Jeff Ehlert are the owners and head guides. They have, combined, 65 years of fishing and hunting experience. Their knowledge of the river, woods, and wildlife in addition to their numerous years of guide experience will ensure you have a exceptional experience.

We aim to create a lasting memory for each angler-whether fishing on your own, as a couple, or with your family. Beginner, intermediate, and expert anglers will benefit from time with our guides. Our guides are experienced in wade and float fishing and can offer professional instruction on casting, reading the water, presentation, and which fly to use when. Fishing with a guide's special fly pattern can be an education in itself.

Kids Fishing, Winter Park, Colorado, The CVD

In the 1940's and 50's, Grand County streams enticed President Eisenhower to spend his free time here so that he could tantalize the trout with a fly and rod. His favorite fly, the H&L Variant still works today. We have exclusive rights to approximately 4 miles of the Fraser River on Granby Ranch. You can fish these waters on your own or with a guide for an access fee. We also fish on the wonderful Colorado River by wading or boat. The float fishing adds incredible scenery to the exceptional fishing. As an alternative, we can help you plan a trip to the Green, Grey Reef, or the Upper North Platte with our favorite guides. Also, ask us about guided hunting trips.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GO FISHING? I have always said that the best time to go fishing is when you can, but if you have your choice then the question becomes a little more complicated. On Grey Reef for example, you want to fish from April through June. The first two weeks of July can still be good, but after that the weed growth really becomes a problem. Not that you can't still catch fish, but most come to the net with an extra couple pounds of salad. Come September the weeds start to die off and the fishing becomes enjoyable again. On the rivers around Winter Park, some of the best fishing occurs before runoff starts or immediately after the waters start to clear. We have a Salmon fly hatch, Green Drake hatch, Blue Winged Olives and Pale Morning Duns, and don't ever come to our streams without your Caddis patterns. As summer progresses, we catch alot of nice fish on Hoppers, Ants, Beetles, Tricos and Caddis. My favorite time to fish around Grand County is the Fall with the changing leaves and crystal clear water. Autumn is streamer time on the Colorado for some very impressive Browns just getting ready procreate. Then again, if streamers aren't your thing, the dry fly fishing can rival the spring for activity. It is almost as if the fish sense the coming winter and want that one last feast before the midge season. Winter is midge fishing for me. Stoneflies also work during the colder months, but midges are generally the rule. We have water that stays open most of the season, so again the best time to go fishing is when you can. We'll be here to take you to the best fishing spot for whatever season it happens to be.
